Lt. David Simmons started with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office in February of 1995. He worked in the Adult Detention Center for a time before transferring to Uniform Patrol. In 1997 He was promoted to Corporal and assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. In 2002 Lt. Simmons was promoted to Sergeant and served as the Evening Watch Commander of the newly formed Bridgemill Precinct. In 2004 Lt. Simmons was transferred back to Criminal Investigations where he headed up the Domestic Violence unit and was the Evening Shift Supervisor. In 2014 Lt. Simmons was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to be the Precinct Commander of the Free Home Precinct.
Lt. Simmons received his certification in Professional Management Program from Columbus State in 2005 and 2014. Lt. Simmons has also received his Supervisory Certification through P.O.S.T. and is working toward completion of Intermediate and Advanced Certifications. Lt. Simmons has completed numerous specialized training classes
Lt. Simmons is active on the board of Directors of the Cherokee Family Violence Center. He rides touring motorcycles as a hobby and has ridden in all of the lower 48 states more than once. Lt. Simmons has been married to his wife, Pattie, for 32 years. They have four adult children and nine grandchildren.
