Lt. Jay Baker is the Public Information Officer for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office. On a daily basis Lt. Baker communicates with and responds to requests from reporters from various news organizations locally and regionally. Lt. Baker also serves as the Crime Prevention Officer and oversees recruiting for the agency.
Lt. Baker has worked for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office for over 24 years. He has held various positions in the Adult Detention Center, Uniform Patrol Division, spent 9 years in Narcotics, and was also assigned to Criminal Investigations for 3 years before becoming the Public Information Officer in 2007.
Lt. Baker has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. He is graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cherokee and also serves as the Vice Chairman of SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together). Lt. Baker has been married for 18 years and has 3 children.
