Lt. Jay Baker is responsible for agency recruiting efforts. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is an Equal Opportunity Empoloyer seeking to employ the best qualified candidates who satisfy all employment criteria regardless of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, or disability. Lt. Baker attends job fairs across the state, speaks to cadets at local police academies, and visits colleges in an attempt to recruit qualified applicants to apply for employment with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.
The hiring process generally lasts for 4 to 6 weeks. The process begins with the submission of an application to Susan Urode at 498 Chattin Dr. Canton, Ga. 30115. Applicants should expect a letter in the mail providing them with a testing date in the near future. The first two tests in the hiring process are a basic skills test and a physical agility test. If an applicant successfully completes these two tests they will be given another date to go before a hiring board. After completing an interview with the hiring board, the board will "recommend" or "not recommend" the applicant for employment. If recommended, the applicant will be given a conditional job offer pending the outcome of a polygraph, psychological evaluation, and a physical examination.
If you have any questions about the recruiting or hiring process, please contact Lt. Baker at 678-493-4117 or email him at
