Accident East Cherokee Drive

Canton, Cherokee County GA. July 23, 2010 - Cherokee Sheriff’s deputies responded to a head on collision Thursday night on East Cherokee Drive near Water Tank Road. It appeared that a Dodge pick-up truck traveling northbound on East Cherokee crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet SUV traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the pick-up truck, Curtis Burkett, 51 years old of Canton, reportedly ran away from the accident scene. The driver of the SUV, Ann Price, 62 years old of Canton, suffered 2 broken wrists and a possible broken leg from the accident. She was transported to North Fulton Hospital. Also in the SUV was Price’s eight month old grandchild. The baby was properly restrained and received no injuries.

Burkett was located approximately 2 hours later walking on East Cherokee Drive. He had suffered minor injuries from the accident. He was transported to North Fulton Hospital after complaining of chest pains. Preliminary indications are that Burkett was speeding and possibly under the influence. Suspected Methamphetamine was located in his vehicle. Charges are pending.
