Former Volunteer Fire Chief Arrested

Canton, Cherokee County GA. July 30, 2010 - Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a former Volunteer Fire Chief of the Holbrook Campground Volunteer Fire Department Friday morning following a 2 week investigation. Todd Christopher, 36 years old of Canton, has been charged with 3 Counts of 1st Degree Forgery, 1 Count of Identity Fraud, and 4 counts of Theft by Taking While Acting in a Fiduciary Capacity. Christopher is currently in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center with a $35,744.00 bond.

Christopher is accused of forging and cashing stipend checks that were supposed to be distributed by Christopher to 4 volunteer firemen at the volunteer fire station where he was the Treasurer. Each check was written for $380.00 for a total of $1,520.00. The Holbrook Campground Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors notified the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services that money was missing approximately 2 weeks ago. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services notified the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office immediately and assisted with the investigation. Christopher resigned from his position 1 week ago.

"The assistance offered to our agency by the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services was vital to this investigation. It is an unfortunate set of circumstances but we are pleased it has now been resolved".
