CMANS Freehome Arrest

Canton, Cherokee County GA. August 24, 2010 - The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) announces the arrest of an individual who delivered approximately 4 ounces of methamphetamine to northeastern Cherokee County.

Fernando Pastrana-Velasquez, 25 YOA of Duluth, Georgia, was arrested on August 28, 2010, and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine. The value of the Methamphetamine is estimated at $4,000.00.

Citizen tips to CMANS Agents resulted in agents conducting a surveillance operation in the Freehome community, in an attempt to locate a suspicious man who had been seen in the area. Agents observed the truck operated by Velasquez leaving a residence where the homeowner had a history of drug violations. Agents determined that Velasquez was wanted on warrants from Norcross, Georgia. With the assistance of SFC Greg Fowler, of the Georgia State Patrol, the Agents were able to detain Mr. Velasquez and discover the methamphetamine that Mr. Velasquez had tried to conceal. Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to assist CMANS Agents in the recovery of the drug evidence found at the scene.

The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad is a joint task force working in Cherokee County to investigate drug related violations. Participating agencies include the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, the Holly Springs Police Department, the Ball Ground Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, the Cherokee County BOE Police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Patrol.
