Juniper Street Arrest

Canton, Cherokee County GA. September 7, 2010 - Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division deputy went to 134 Juniper Street in Canton Tuesday morning to perform a “set out” of residents who were being evicted from their home. At the location the deputy discovered a large amount of prescription and over the counter pharmaceuticals inside the home. The drugs, which were labeled in Spanish, are presumably from a Hispanic Country. The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, the Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency and the Canton Police responded to the location to assist.

It is currently unknown if the drugs were being sold from the home on Juniper Street or from another location. A large quantity of the drugs seized from the home required a hypodermic needle to be administered. Many of the drugs were expired including doses of Tetracycline, which become toxic after expiration. The Tetracycline seized that the location had been expired for more than 4 years.

One arrest was made at the location. Juan Escobar, 41 years old of Canton, was arrested and charged with 23 counts of Possession of a Dangerous Drug. He remains in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center with a $15,640.00 bond. More arrests are possible.

Although no illicit drugs were seized from this home, it is certainly concerning from a public health stand point because many of the drugs were expired and some potentially toxic. If anyone is familiar with any other similar locations in Cherokee County we strongly urge them to contact CMANS.”
