Drug Death

Woodstock, Cherokee County, Georgia Thursday 16 September 2010 - On 25 August 2010 Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to 203 Valley Farm Ct. Acworth in reference to a possible drug overdose. The victim, 18 year old Kevin Lewis, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cause and manner of death is awaiting toxicology results from the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation revealed three other 18 year old males had suffered an apparent overdose and all three were hospitalized and subsequently released. The female homeowner, Kerrie Sue Chatham, 42 years old, was arrested and charged with: Distribution of a Schedule II drug; and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana. Chatham remains in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.

Investigation indicates that the victim obtained the drug Phenazepam via the internet. The experimental drug does not appear in the list of Controlled Substances in the United States. Investigators are working to identify the source of the drug and just how Lewis obtained it.
