911 Malfuntion

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. November 7, 2010 - An electrical malfunction at the Cherokee County 911 Center occurred this morning at approximately 8:45am. The 911 center temporarily lost contact with fire and police officials. Additionally phone lines at the center were down and emergency calls could not be taken.

Officials immediately set up a command center outside 911 and reestablished contact with fire stations and law enforcement. Cherokee 911 officials contacted Cobb County 911 and all calls to “911” from Cherokee County were routed through Cobb 911. The situation remains under control at this time. Technicians are currently working on correcting the malfunction.

If any Cherokee County residents have an emergency they are instructed to call 911 as normal.
