Shadowood Stabbing

Acworth, Cherokee County, Ga. January 26, 2011 - Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in Shadowood Mobile Home Park off Bells Ferry Road. Upon arrival they discovered James Stanley, 19 years old of Acworth, with a stab wound to his neck. The suspect, Jeremiah Gossett, 18 years old Acworth, reportedly attempted suicide after stabbing Stanley by cutting his own wrist.

Both men were taken to Kennestone Hospital and treated. Both the victim and the suspect are expected to recover.

Stanley and Gossett were neighbors and have been friends for many years. Both are suspected of smoking marijuana and consuming alcohol prior to Gossett asking Stanley if we would allow Gossett to hypnotize him. Stanley stated he agreed to the hypnotism and said he later closed his eyes. The victim advised detectives he then felt a sharp pain in his neck and observed Gossett holding a knife. Stanley fled the residence and then Gossett reportedly attempted suicide.

Gossett was arrested after being released from the hospital and is currently in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center with a $22,200.00 bond. He was charged with Aggravated Assault.
