Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. March 30, 2011 - In response to recent complaints of trash on Interstate 575 and moving violations of commercial vehicles, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office has increased enforcement efforts on these vehicles, commercial trash trucks in particular. In the first week of focusing on this issue, 18 citations have been written for Littering or Unsecured Load and two commercial trash trucks have been impounded and removed from the roadway. Of the two trucks impounded, one was driven by an unlicensed driver who was arrested and the other had an expired tag and several equipment violations.

Operators of such vehicles are reminded they are required to secure their loads regardless of what they are transporting and must abide by all traffic and equipment laws. If citizens see a commercial vehicle with an unsecured load they are encouraged to call 911 and report it.
