Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. August 31, 2011. Cherokee County Public Safety would like to invite the public to a “Patriot Day Remembrance” which will be held on September 12th at the Public Safety Memorial, located between the Justice Center and the Historic Courthouse, in downtown Canton. The event begins at 8:30 am and will end around 10am. Leaders from the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, and Cherokee County Commissioners will be on hand as we honor those killed on September 11th 2001.
The featured speaker will be Deputy Michael Sanchez who joined the New York Police Department in 1984 where he served with distinction until 2004. While serving in the NYPD, he was assigned to various units including NYPD Highway Patrol and the District Attorney's Detective Squad. He was assigned as a Confidential Aid to the Police Commissioner during September 11, 2001. Due to his actions during 911, Sanchez was promoted to Detective Second Grade and retired 3 years later. He received 10 commendations during his career with the NYPD and became a member of the NYPD Honor Legion. Deputy Sanchez joined the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in 2007 where he is assigned to the Adult Detention Center and the Gang Intelligence Unit.
There will be a special patriotic musical salute to be performed by the Cherokee County Community Corral.
Once again, the public is cordially invited as we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
