Press Release Safety

April 26, 2002

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. April 26, 2002. The longer sunny days are a time for playing outdoors and enjoying the wonderful weather. Unfortunately, it can be a time when crime is more apparent. Sheriff Garrison would like to offer a few safety tips for the Spring/Summer season that will help in making this time of year a safe and happy one. Be cautious of your speed when driving along roads that have children out playing in their yards and neighborhood streets. Parents may want to try to get the kids to focus their play in the backyard to avoid vehicle congestion in the streets. A good suggestion for drivers is to invest in a hands-free device for your cellular phone this will allow you to keep your attention focused on the road.

Sheriff Garrison also has suggestions for home safety when leaving for your summer vacation. If you are leaving town, ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your house for any suspicious activity and to call 911 if they see a problem. Remember to place automatic timers on your lights in the house as well as on the outside of the house. Lastly, do not forget to stop the delivery of mail and newspapers to your house. Have a safe and joyous Spring/Summer season.
