Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. May 9, 2002.
On May 3, 2002, Deputy Sheriff Christian Higgins of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office stopped a Chevy Blazer for an equipment violation. Upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle, Higgins noticed a distinct odor of drugs coming from the vehicle. The car was searched upon permission from the driver. The car contained chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine. The Sheriff's Office contacted the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI). CMANS and the GBI secured and supervised the clean up of the chemicals. The lab in the vehicle was in its final stages of processing and was ready to be distributed. Kevin Craig, 39 years of age of Acworth, Ga. was arrested on the charge of the manufacturing of a controlled substance. Debra Gerber, 41 years of age of Acworth, Ga. was arrested on charges of possession of a schedule IV drug, manufacturing of a controlled substance and tail light required/defective. Shannon Craig, 33 years of age of Acworth, Ga. was arrested on the charge of manufacturing of a controlled substance. They are currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond awaiting a bond hearing.
Due to recent methamphetamine cases in the County, Sheriff Roger Garrison has implemented training classes to assist deputies in drug lab detection.
