Press Release Memorial Day Task Force

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. May 28, 2002. At 8:00.p.m., Friday May 25, 2002 the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office kicked off its annual Memorial Day traffic task force. The task force consisted of the Cherokee County Traffic Enforcement Unit, the K-9 unit and uniform patrol deputies. The deputies worked the whole weekend to alert people of expired car insurance, excessive speed, driving while under the influence also to ensure that people were wearing their seatbelts. The detail ended May 28, 2002 with a total of 23 arrests. All of the arrests made were for the offense of Driving Under the Influence. There were a total of 66 citations written for speeding, 8 citations were written for seatbelt violations and 103 citations were issued for car insurance violations. The Cherokee County Sheriff 's Office mission in conducting a task force is to let the citizens of Cherokee County know that drinking and driving as well as speeding violations will not be tolerated.
