Press Release May Traffic Statistics

June 10, 2002

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. June 10, 2002. During the month of May 2002, The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported a grand total of 302 motor vehicle crashes. These crashes resulted in 302 injuries. The three main causative factors in these crashes are: following too closely, driver losing control and failure to yield. The three roads to have the highest number of reported crashes were: Highway 92 with 72 crashes and 36 injuries, Highway 20 with 53 crashes and 41 injuries and Bells Ferry Road with 66 crashes and 54 injuries. Because these three roads had a high incident rate for the month of May, the Sheriff's Office deputies took preventative measures. In result of these measures, 611 traffic stops resulted in citations or warnings.
