Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 9, 2002.
At 7:00.p.m., Thursday July 4, 2002 the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office kicked off its annual Fourth of July Holiday traffic task force. The task force consisted of the Cherokee County Traffic Enforcement Unit, the K-9 unit and uniform patrol deputies. The deputies worked the whole weekend to alert people of expired car insurance, excessive speed, driving while under the influence also to ensure that people were wearing their seatbelts. The detail ended Sunday, July 7, 2002 with a total of 21 arrests. Fifteen of the arrests made were for the offense of Driving Under the Influence. There were a total of 179 citations written. Sixty-four of the citations written were for speeding, 9 citations were written for seatbelt violations, 18 citations for license violations and 35 citations were issued for car insurance violations. The Cherokee County Sheriff 's Office mission in conducting a task force is to let the citizens of Cherokee County know that drinking and driving as well as speeding violations will not be tolerated.
