Press Release Financial Fraud Arrest

July 24, 2002

Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. July 24, 2002. On July 16, 2002 the Texaco in Woodstock filed a police report about someone in the store trying to pass forged checks. Surveillance tapes were recovered from the store and an offender was identified. Investigation has led to the identity of two offenders. Over the weekend, the evidence in the investigation led to the arrest of Veronica Wheeler 24 years of age of Rydell, GA. and Shannon McDowell, 29 years of age of Canton, Ga..

Wheeler is charged with 1 count of criminal attempt of forgery in the first degree, 9 counts of forgery in the first degree and one count of financial identity fraud. Wheeler's bond set at $16,475. McDowell is charged with 1 count of criminal attempt of forgery in the first degree and 5 counts of forgery in the first degree. McDowell's bond is set at $6,325. Wheeler and McDowell are currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
