Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. August 25, 2002.
At approximately 7:30 pm., August 24, 2002, deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal car crash on Highway 20 near Jack Page Lane.
A Honda Accord and a van traveling opposite directions on Highway 20 crashed and ended up in a ditch on the side of the road. When Cherokee County personnel arrived at the scene of the crash both cars were fully involved with fire.
The driver of the Honda Accord, Ruth Reed, 56 years of age of Flowery Branch, Ga died at the scene of the crash. The passenger of the vehicle, Larry Reed, 56 years of age also of Flowery Branch, Ga sustained serious injuries and was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital.
The driver of the van sustained serious injuries and was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital. Two other passengers of the van sustained critical injuries and were life-flighted to Grady Memorial Hospital. The fourth passenger of the van fled from the scene of the crash. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit attempted to locate the passenger.
