Press Release Stolen Auto

At approximately 8:30 p.m., September 19, 2002 the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Shadowwood Mobile Home Park in reference to a stolen motor vehicle.

Cherokee 911 was able to give the description of the vehicle as a full size Dodge Ram pickup truck. Deputies responding to the call, passed the stolen vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The stolen vehicle would not stop and deputies called off the traffic stop attempt due to the danger it presented the community. The suspect in the stolen vehicle crashed into a vehicle after deputies discontinued the traffic stop, the suspect was able to drive off. Other responding deputies placed stop sticks down on Rose Creek Drive in attempt to stop the suspect. The suspect then attempted to hit a deputy placing the stop sticks in the roadway. This placed a life-threatening upon the deputy and created a greater danger to the community. The suspect was traveling west on Towne Lake Parkway when defensive measures were used at the location of Towne Lake Parkway and Bells Ferry. The suspect was able to continue south on Bells Ferry Road after striking a police vehicle. Defensive Measures were used again which resulted in the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office apprehending the suspect.

Rodney O'Shields, 29 years of age of Douglasville, Ga was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Felony Hit And Run, Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle, Motor Vehicle Theft and Reckless Driving. O'Shields is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a bond set at $118,325.
