Press Release Arrest in dog stomping

Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. September 24, 2002On September 20, 2002 The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a cruelty to animal call.

D/S Ryder responded to the residence to find a family pet that had been apparently stomped to death. The victim expressed to D/S Ryder that there had been a verbal family altercation at the house. The victim expressed her father/suspect took out his frustration on a new family puppy and stomped the puppy to death.

On September 24, 2002 D/S Ryder spotted a vehicle traveling down Univeter Road that matched a description of the suspect's vehicle. During the traffic stop D/S Ryder and D/S Nelson recognized the suspect and was able to make an arrest. George Swanson, Sr., 59 years of age of Canton, Ga was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, simple assault FVA and cruelty to children in the 2nd degree. He is currently being held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. Swanson's bond is set at $7,025.
