Press Release
September Traffic Statistics

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. October 7, 2002  During the month of September 2002, The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported a grand total of 263 motor vehicle crashes. These crashes resulted in 100 injuries. The three main causative factors in these crashes are: following too closely, driver losing control and failure to yield. The three roads to have the highest number of reported crashes were: Highway 92 with 39 crashes and 17 injuries, Highway 20 with 18 crashes and 14 injuries and Bells Ferry Road with 15 crashes and 3 injuries. Because these three roads had a high incident rate for the month of September, the Sheriff's Office deputies took preventative measures. In result of these measures, 869 traffic stops resulted in citations or warnings.
