November Criminal Investigation Division Statistics

Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. December 6, 2002  Cherokee County Fire-EMA and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are investigating the fire in the old TRANSDESIGN building located on Transart Parkway. The fire occurred Monday night, November 4, 2002. The building has been vacant for several years and had become a hangout for young people. Because of its remote location, efforts to secure the 110,000 square foot building were unsuccessful. Prior to the fire, over $200,000 in damages had been inflicted on the building and fixtures. The site was also used for illegal dumping.

The Monday night fire did extensive damage to the support structure and the main office area. Heat from the fire caused a portion of the roof to collapse adding further cost to the planned renovation of the building.

Anyone with information regarding the fire is urged to contact Fire Investigator Ossie DeLay at 770-479-5172. A reward up to $10,000 is available for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the fire. The insurance company is also offering a reward of up to a $10,000 for information pertaining to the vandalism and arson. The arson Hotline is also available at 1-800-282-5804. All information will remain confidential.
