Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. January 30, 2003 At approximately 8:00 p.m. on January 29, 2003 a police officer from the Holly Springs Police department responded to the QuickTrip at the intersection of Highway 5 and Sixes Road in reference to a person in the store with a gun. While awaiting the arrival of a Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputy, the Holly Springs officer spoke with the suspect. The suspect brandished a weapon and attempted to pull the trigger on the officer. As a Sergeant from Holly Springs Police Department pulled into the parking lot the suspect fled the store and drove away in a vehicle. The suspect's vehicle was pursued onto Sixes Road where the Holly Springs Police Department along with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop the vehicle. The pursuit of the suspect continued down Sixes Road and proceeded to turn southbound on Bells Ferry Road. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office stopped the vehicle at Cherokee Mills boat ramp and placed the suspect into custody.
Ricky Blair, 45 years of age of Canton, Ga. is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, trafficking of controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of firearm by a convicted felon. Blair is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
