Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. February 5, 2003 At approximately 2:00 p.m. the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) received a call from The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Missing and Exploited Children's Division regarding a tip that came through their hotline concerning a mother living in Cherokee County that had abducted her two children from Tennessee.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office CID followed up on the tip and was able to locate Tara Prather Wells, 29 years of age of Cleveland, TN. Wells has been on the run for approximately the last two years with her two eight year old twin boys. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office notified the Canton Police Department (CPD) and requested assistance in apprehending Wells. CPD arrested Wells at approximately 4:00 p.m. at the River Ridge Apartments, which was her place of employment. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office took the children into custody and is coordinating the reunification efforts with the father. Wells is currently charged with Interstate Interference with Child Custody. Wells is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center awaiting extradition.
