Follow-up to Fatal Car Crash

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. February 6, 2003   At approximately 9:30 a.m., on August 14, 2002, deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal car crash on Arbor Hill Road with a cross street of Gaddis Road. A green Toyota Sierra and a silver Ford Expedition were traveling on Arbor Hill Road where they crashed.

The driver of the Toyota Sierra, Margarita Penaherrea, 33 years of age of Marietta, Ga died on impact of the crash.

Ryan Nilsen, 20 years of age of Woodstock, Ga, the driver of the Ford Expedition, sustained critical injuries and was air ambulanced to Grady Memorial Hospital. The passenger of the Expedition, Alan Welch, 20 years of age of Woodstock, Ga sustained no injuries. Upon investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Traffic Enforcement Unit, Nilsen is charged with Homicide by Vehicle in the

1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, Reckless Driving, Speeding and Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road. Nilsen is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. Nilsen has a bond set at $27,500. The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has charges pending in the investigation.
