Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. May 5, 2003 The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has recognized Sheriff Roger Garrison and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office as being a vital part of the FBI-Social Security Administration Fugitive Felon Program (SSA).
The Fugitive Felon program tracks felons that have become fugitives of justice through the Social Security Office. If a fugitive requests to receive any type of funding through the Social Security Office, the SSA will send a letter along with a yellow form to the county the fugitive has been located. The County will then send law enforcement to locate the fugitive and place them into custody. The FBI is then notified when the fugitive is placed into custody.
Because of the support from local law enforcement such as the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the FBI has placed over 3,000 fugitive felons into custody. Because these felons are placed into custody before they can receive any money from the government, over 100 million dollars in projected benefit payments have been saved to all of the tax- paying Americans.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is proud to support the FBI's efforts in keeping our community safe.
