Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. June 12, 2003 Detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are investigating a kidnapping that occurred on June 9, 2003 on Mill Creek Road. The victim was driving home at approximately 11:30 p.m. when she was rear-ended by a Jeep Cherokee. As the victim attempted to dial 911 the driver of the Jeep allegedly knocked the victim's cell phone from her hands and placed a chokehold on the victim and forced her into the woods where she momentarily lost consciousness. Detectives were able to locate the suspect from his cell phone, which was left at the scene of the crime.
Ruben Lopez, 28 years of age of Woodstock, Ga. was arrested on charges of kidnapping with serious bodily injury with other charges pending. Lopez is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. Lopez's bond amount is pending. Lopez also has charges pending out of Kennesaw.
