Follow-up July 4th Traffic

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 7, 2003  At 7:00.p.m., Thursday July 3, 2003 the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office kicked off its annual Fourth of July Holiday traffic task force. The task force consisted of the Cherokee County Traffic Enforcement Unit, the K-9 unit and uniform patrol deputies. The deputies worked the whole weekend to alert people of expired car insurance, excessive speed, driving while under the influence also to ensure that people were wearing their seatbelts. The detail ended Sunday, July 6, 2003 with a total of 78 arrests. Twenty-five of the arrests made were for the offense of Driving Under the Influence. Seventy-three citations were written for speeding, nine citations were written for seatbelt violations, forty-nine citations for license violations and thirty-four citations were issued for car insurance violations. The Cherokee County Sheriff 's Office mission in conducting traffic enforcement holiday details is to let the citizens of Cherokee County know that drinking and driving as well as speeding violations will not be tolerated.
