Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 18, 2003 On July 17, 2003, at approximately 1:30 a.m. detectives from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to 2120 Ball Ground Highway in reference to an aggravated assault. Detectives found the victim with stab wounds that were serious in nature, but did not have a suspect at that time due to a language barrier.
On July 17, 2003, a witness of the stabbing contacted the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) regarding the residence of the suspect. Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Detectives and officers of the Canton Police Department arrested the suspect at approximately 10:00 p.m. The suspect. Omar Merced Figueroa, 22 years of age of Canton, Ga. is charged with Aggravated Assault. Figueroa is currently at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a bond set at $11,050.
