Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. August 2, 2003 Employees of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office mourn a friend and a colleague that passed away in the line of duty, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Saturday August 2, 2003. Deputy Woodard was responding to a burglar in the residence call when his car crashed into a tree on the side of Highway 369.
Deputy Sheriff Wayne Woodard started his career with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office in November 2001. In March of 2003 he was transferred from the Adult Detention Center to the Uniform Patrol Division where he was assigned to the Hickory Flat Precinct.
Deputy Sheriff Woodard will be remembered for his integrity as Deputy Sheriff as well as a friend to all. Sheriff Garrison and his fellow deputies extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Deputy Sheriff Wayne Woodard.
