Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. August 11, 2003 Staying on the cutting edge of technology, laws and other issues that affect law enforcement and the Office of the Sheriff is a critical task for the Sheriff. One way that Sheriffs accomplish this task is by attending training conferences sponsored by the Georgia Sheriffs' Association. Sheriff Roger Garrison recently returned from the Associations' 49th Annual Training Conference held at Stone Mountain Park, July 28-30. Over one hundred and ten chief law enforcement officers from around the state participated in the three-day event. The conference devoted training sessions to update Sheriff's on issues such as: new legislation, Homeland Security and Policing, Vehicle Pursuit Liability, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and Prison Trends in Georgia.
Governor Sonny Perdue and several elected officials visited with the Sheriffs throughout the conference, thanking the Sheriffs for the difficult job they do and pledging the support of law enforcement.
