Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 24, 2003 On September 23, 2003 the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to 300 Megan Court, Apartment #200, Cherokee Summitt Apartments regarding an alleged shooting/suicide.
Investigators with The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the GBI Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to investigate the evidence. Investigators determined Allison McCollum, 22 years of age, died from a gunshot wound to her head and have charged her husband, John David McCollum, 27 years of age of Woodstock with Murder and Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. McCollum is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without a bond.
The McCollum's 15 month old child has been released from Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) custody and been placed in the home of the victim's parents.
