DFACS Advisory Committee

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. November 12, 2003  The state Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) has announced the members of its newly formed child welfare advisory committee. Sheriff Garrison has been appointed to the new advisory committee. DHR Board Chairman Bruce Cook announced the plan to create the committee at the Board of Human Resources' monthly meeting on October 15.

"DFACS is at a crossroads and ready to take some strong steps in a new direction," said Janet Oliva, PhD, special assistant to the DHR commissioner focusing on strengthening DFCS services for children. "These advocates and experts bring valuable insights to our efforts."

People were invited to serve on the committee based on their expertise and experience in child welfare and social service issues. The committee's membership also includes representatives from the legal and judicial systems.
