Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. December 9, 2003 At approximately 4:30 a.m. deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to the Citgo Store located at 2000 Marietta Highway for a burglary in progress.
Upon responding to the store, deputies found the suspect with an ashtray canister in his hands attempting to break the front door of the store. Deputies later found the glass door on the other side of the store broken. Sergeant Hite and Deputy J. Sanders arrested Hugh Baron Abernathy, 40 years of age of Canton. Abernathy is charged with criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree and criminal attempt to commit burglary. Abernathy is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a bond set at $11,100.
