Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. March 11, 2004 On March 11, 2004, at approximately 4:45 p.m. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to I-575 North of Howell Bridge Road regarding a serious injury crash.
A 2003 Acura TL was traveling northbound on I-575. The vehicle was changing lanes and driving reckless when the vehicle struck the rear of a Chevrolet S10. The Chevrolet S10 flipped over and ejected two occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the Chevrolet S10, Mark Cobb, 37 years of age of Ellijay was ground transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital where he is in stable condition. The passenger of the vehicle, Earl Anderson, 29 years of age of Ellijay County died at the scene of the crash.
A third vehicle was behind the Chevrolet S10 and was slightly damaged from debris of the crash.
The driver of the Acura TL, Phillip Smith, 35 years of age of Knoxville, TN is charged with DUI, reckless driving, serious injury by motor vehicle, vehicular homicide 1st degree. Smith is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a bond of $ 26,950.
TheCherokee County Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the fatal car crash.
