Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. April 6, 2004  On February 9, 2004, Jeffrey Johnson 11 years of age and Christopher Johnson 13 years of age died in a house fire at 13778 Cumming Hwy. Cherokee County, Ga. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. However, the fire appears to be accidental. During the early morning hours before the fire the parents of the two children (John David Johnson and Belinda Johnson ) left the children asleep in the home while the two went shopping. The two left the children after smelling and seeing smoke in the home - leaving after allegedly not being able to find the source of the smoke.

On April 5, 2004, John David Johnson 39 years of age and Belinda Palmer Johnson 38 years of age were arrested at their home in Cumming, Ga. by members of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Homicide Task Force and charged as follows: John David Johnson charged with two counts of reckless conduct and possession of methamphetamine bond amount of $ 12,300.00; and Belinda Palmer Johnson charged with two counts of reckless conduct bond amount of $1,250.00. Both are being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
