Summer Safety Tips

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. June 1, 2004  The summer season is a time for families to enjoy time together. Unfortunately, it can be a time when crime is more apparent. Sheriff Garrison would like to offer a few safety tips for the summer season that will help in making this season a safe and happy one. If you are going to the lake this season, make sure you lock your vehicle in the parking lots so nothing will be taken. If you have a boat that is left at a dock, please be sure to lock it up as much as possible and to take your boat trailer home with you so it will not be vandalized or stolen in your absence. Sheriff Garrison also has suggestions for home safety if you plan on leaving town. If you are leaving town, ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your house for any suspicious activity and to call 911 if they see a problem. Remember to place automatic timers on your lights in the house as well as on the outside of the house. Lastly, do not forget to stop the delivery of mail and newspapers to your house. Have a safe summer.
