Fourth of July Holiday Traffic Enforcement

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 6, 2004  At 7:00.p.m., Friday July 2, 2004 the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office kicked off its annual Fourth of July Holiday traffic enforcement detail. The task force consisted of the Cherokee County Traffic Enforcement Unit, the K-9 unit and uniform patrol deputies. Deputies worked the entire weekend to alert and enforce driving while under the influence, speed limits and to ensure that people were wearing their seatbelts. The detail ended Sunday, July 4, 2004 with a total of 53 arrests. Sixteen of the arrests made were for the offense of Driving Under the Influence. Fifty-three citations were written for speeding, six citations were written for seatbelt violations, twenty-one citations for license violations and fourteen citations were issued for car insurance violations. The Cherokee County Sheriff 's Office mission in conducting traffic enforcement holiday details is to let the citizens of Cherokee County know that drinking and driving as well as speeding violations will not be tolerated.
