Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. December 15, 2004 On December 15, 2004, at approximately 1:00pm an off duty CMANS Agent was at the Wal-Mart in Canton Georgia when the agent observed Michael Peel and his live in girlfriend Rannin Bitner buying items that are used to manufacture methamphetamine. On duty agents responded and questioned the individuals. Agents went to their home in Holly Springs (Holly Mobile Home Park lot 18) and discovered a methamphetamine lab. The lab was in a bedroom closet of the couple's home. Also living in the home were two juvenile children ages 5 and 3. The children were present in the home where the methamphetamine lab was located and had access to the closet area.
Agents arrested and charged Peel as well as Bitner with Cruelty to Children under the new Child Endangerment law that was passed by the Georgia General Assembly on July 1 2004. This is the first time that CMANS has charged a person under the new Child Endangerment law in reference to a Methamphetamine Lab. Additional charges to the couple are Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Possession of Methamphetamine. Bitner and Peel are currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without a bond.
The Department of Family and Children Services were notified and arrived at the location.
