Suspicious Device

Freehome, Cherokee County, Ga. January 25, 2005   On January 24, 2005, at approximately 7:15 pm the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 4240 Cumming Highway regarding a suspicious device found in the residence.

The residents of the house were cleaning out closets when they came upon an object and substances that resembled a pipe bomb and called 911. When deputies responded to the scene, the Cobb County Bomb Squad was immediately called in for assistance. The Cobb County Bomb Squad detonated the device at approximately 10:30 pm. The device is not suspected to be a pipe bomb and residents of the area, who had been evacuated at the time, were allowed to re-enter the surrounding area.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Violent Crime Unit is investigating the incident.
