Arrest of a Sex Offender

Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. July 19, 2005  On July 19, 2005, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Randy Charles Slekitis, 41 years of age of Woodstock, Ga. Slekitis was named as a suspect in a reported possible burglary. During the investigation, Slekitis was determined to be an individual required to register as a sex offender and he was the subject of outstanding charges for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Panama City, Florida. Detectives also determined that Slekitis has been residing in Woodstock since early 2005 and did not register his residence as required by the Georgia Sex Offender Registry requirements. Slekitis is charged with Failing to Register as a Sex Offender and Residing within 1,000 feet of a Daycare. He is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without a bond and is awaiting extradition by Panama City, Florida.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office diligently enforces Sexual Offender Registry laws in the interest of protecting the public. Sexual offenders are required under Georgia law to register their residence and work address within 10 days of release or change of address. Failure to comply with this requirement is a felony violation.
