Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 28, 2005 At approximately 1:00 am, a tractor-trailer traveling west towards Bartow County on Highway 20 (Knoxbridge Highway) near the intersection of Sweetwater Trail was hit by a white van traveling east towards Canton. The van crossed over the centerline and crashed into the oncoming tractor-trailer. There was a green passenger vehicle traveling behind the white van that attempted to stop to avoid the crash. The tractor-trailer came to a final resting point in the eastbound lane a struck the green passenger vehicle. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained injuries and was ground transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital. The driver of the green passenger vehicle received no injuries and was able to drive away from the scene. The driver of the white van, the driver at fault, sustained fatal injuries. The name of the driver will be released upon notification of the family.
The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash.
