Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. December 16, 2005 The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections have placed Jamerson Mangrum in the State penal system. Sheriff Roger Garrison said the Georgia Department of Corrections worked with the Sheriff’s Office to place Mangrum in the State penal system as soon as his sentence was announced. “Mangrum has a lot ahead of him in getting evaluated and adjusted to the State system, that we wanted to help with a smooth transition into his new situation,” stated Garrison. Mangrum was sentenced December 15, 2005 to a life sentence plus eighty years for the rape and murder of Katie Hamlin.
