Press Release
Project Lifesaver

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. January 5, 2006  Sheriff Roger Garrison is proud to announce Project Lifesaver Cherokee to the citizens of Cherokee County. The implementation of this new program is designed to aid officers in locating missing persons. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation will be funding this program so that Project Lifesaver will be at no cost our citizens.

Project Lifesaver Cherokee is designed to help children and senior citizens with “wandering issues” surrounding health problems such as Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia, Autism, and Down syndrome. Clients, who enroll in Project Lifesaver, will wear a personalized wristband or bracelet that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify the Sheriff’s Office or 911 that a patient or loved one is missing and wearing a Project Lifesaver bracelet, officers with the Sheriff’s office will be able to search for the client with a mobile locater tracking system. For those who wear these special bracelets; search times will be reduced from hours and days to minutes and possibly saving the lives of those who are not able to help themselves. The national average time for locating a person registered with Project Lifesaver is 23 minutes.

One of the initial highest costs of Project Lifesaver is the tracking receivers. Each receiver costs $2,400.00. The goal of Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation is to supply the Sheriff’s Office with eight tracking receivers, one for each precinct. A new client who enrolls in Project Lifesaver will be provided with a bracelet kit that costs $276.00. The initial kit contains the tracking device located inside the special bracelet. After a client enrolls into the program, the bracelet will need to have a new battery replaced at a cost $7.60 each month. Once the initial bracelet is purchased, the costs are minimal to maintain per client.

Project Lifesaver is one of the many programs planned that the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation is funding for our communities. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation was founded by a group of volunteers who shared a vision to maintain and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Cherokee County through a partnership with the Sheriff’s Office. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation is a non-profit organization that will provide various programs to work in harmony with the community and the Sheriff’s Office with fund-raisers, and through the application of grants from the government and the private sectors. The foundation will work toward assisting the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in securing funding to enhance the safety of law enforcement officers and citizens of Cherokee County. If you would like to donate to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation, please make your check payable to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Foundation, P. O. Box 306, Canton, Georgia 30169. All donations are tax deductible.
