Press Release
Deputy Involved Shooting

Acworth, Cherokee County, Ga. April 3, 2006   On April 3, 2006 at approximately 12:00 am, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3000 block of Kellogg Creek Road in reference to shots fired. A homeowner discovered two individuals attempting to steal a log splitter at the rear of his property. The homeowner confronted the suspects who were in two trucks. One of the suspects fled the scene immediately with the homeowner firing a number of rounds at the truck. It is believed that the passenger side window of the truck was broken by one of the rounds fired by the homeowner.

The second suspect was initially held at gunpoint by the homeowner awaiting the arrival of law enforcement. As Sheriff’s Office units arrived the suspect fled with the homeowner firing a number of shots at the fleeing vehicle.

A Cherokee County Deputy responding to the scene was confronted by the suspect fleeing the scene in a large work type truck and the sound of the homeowner firing at the vehicle. The suspect drove the large truck at the uniformed Deputy and the Deputy fired two rounds at the vehicle in an attempt to stop the assault. It is not believed the suspect was struck by any of the fired rounds.

A pursuit of the suspect vehicle was initiated when the suspect refused to stop ending a short distance away. When the suspect drove behind the home on New Hope Road became stuck in the soft ground. The suspect escaped on foot. Vehicle used in the assault was stolen from Marietta, Ga.

The only suspect information is they are described as white males. The white male driving the stolen truck is described as having a beard. The other vehicle involved is possibly red in color and could be a Ford truck with the passenger window missing possibly having defects in the truck body from rounds fired.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Cherokee Sheriff Office at 678-493-4080.
