The crimes of Identity Fraud and Financial Fraud are on the rise throughout our Nation. In order to protect yourself from becoming a victim of this crime, Detectives ask that you check your mailbox daily to ensure that bills or checks are picked up in a timely manner. Secondly, do not send payments for bills from your mailbox, instead mail them from a U.S. Post Office. Once you leave the bills in your mailbox and leave for work, someone other than the postal person may take the checks you have left behind in your mailbox. Detectives also ask you to check your accounts on a regular basis to ensure the checks you have sent to pay bills have reached their proper destination. Lastly, obtain your free credit report on at least an annual basis to make sure there is no fraud occurring on your credit history.
If you feel you have been a victim of someone taking checks or mail from your mailbox you are asked to contact Sgt. Bert Love at 770-928-0239.
