Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. September 21, 2006. On September 21, 2006 at approximately 2:00 a.m. the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office responded to 1100 Ellen Way, The Cherokee Summit Apartments, in reference to a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, the suspect, Walter Poor, 27 years of age, Woodstock, Ga, had left the scene of the dispute where he had attempted to break into the residence and allegedly harm the female victim. As he left the scene, Poor allegedly threatened to kill himself if he saw any police officers respond to the area. Deputies received information Poor was on his way back to his residence in a subdivision off of Highway 92. Deputies responded to the area of Highway 92 and placed stop sticks where Poor’s vehicle was reportedly located. Deputies located the vehicle as it rolled over the stop sticks; Poor exited the vehicle with a weapon in which he told the deputies he was going to use to kill himself. After several attempts by deputies to get Poor to put the weapon down, deputies used the less than lethal force of bean bag rounds to stop Poor’s threat. Poor was taken into custody and transported to Kennestone Hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.

Poor is charged with Battery (FVA), False Imprisonment, Cruelty to Children, Burglary, Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a crime, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault against a Police Officer, Obstruction of an Officer, Discharging of a firearm. Poor will be transported to the Cherokee Adult detention Center upon release from the hospital
