Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. May 29, 2007- Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office conducted eight safety checkpoints during the Memorial Day weekend to establish safe travel throughout Cherokee County during the holiday weekend and to identify drivers under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
The sheriff's office arrested 53 people at the checkpoints including 11 charged with DUI. Officers also made 77 additional traffic charges including Under Age Possession, seatbelt violations, Speeding, and Reckless Driving.
35 deputies, 3 EMS personnel, and 4 dispatchers from 911 participated in the checkpoints. There were no fatal or serious accidents reported in Cherokee County this Memorial Day weekend.
