Investigation

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. June 20, 2007- A five month investigation has resulted in additional charges for an inmate in the Georgia prison system. On February 2, 2007 an employee in the Cherokee County Superior Court Clerks Office received a letter that was threatening in nature and contained a white powdery substance. The substance was later determined to be non-hazardous. Detectives with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Violent Crime Unit determined that the letter originated from Walker State Prison. The investigation lead detectives to Anthony Ivey, 42 years old of Atlanta. Ivey is an inmate currently serving time for Robbery in the Wilcox State Prison but that was formerly housed at Walker State Prison.

Detectives suspect that Ivey mailed the letter to retaliate against another inmate following an altercation inside the prison. The other inmate, Lucius Darkside, 45 years old of Acworth, Ga., is serving a three year sentence for an assault that ocurred in Cherokee County in 2005.
